APPLY TO COMPETE FOR PARTICIPATING TEAMS’ PRIZES

Applications, as well as submissions for Round 1 and Round 2, can be written in English or French. However, all presentations in the final rounds in Montreal must be in English.

Participating teams (i.e. teams applying to SBC without going through their educational institutions)

The team leader (or corresponding team member) must complete the form for participating teams by January 31, 2020, with the following information:

  • Project name & location
  • Team composition:
    • Name of team members (exactly as to be printed on SBC certificates)
    • Education background
    • Affiliation (if the member is currently a student, enter the name of the program and university that the member is attending. If the member is not a student, enter the name of the organization in which the member is working)
    • Country
    • Role in the team
    • Email
  • If a member of the team request financial and other special support he should include a letter explaining the type of support requested and the reasons why SBC should grant this member the requested support. SBC will consider the request and communicate the results with that member at the time SBC sends the team the decision letter with regards to the application to enter the competition.
  • Closeup photos of all your team members
  • Proof of student status of the members who are students (at least one member of the team must be a student at the time of the application)
  • Social challenge description: in maximum 200 words, describe your target social challenge and motivations to address this challenge.
  • Proposed solution: in maximum 200 words, describe how YOUR TEAM plans to address the target social challenge.
  • Declaration of contribution to UN sustainable goals: declare how the project contributes to at least one of the 17 sustainable development goals identified by the United Nations and briefly explain how it will be done (in 1 or 2 sentences for each goal). Check the United Nations’s web site for detailed information about the goals.

SBC selection is done on a rolling basis, and teams will receive an SBC decision letter within 10 working days after the organizers receive the completed application form.

Specific notes to HEC Montréal students
To earn 3 course credits, you need to register with the Office of the Registrar:  BAA program , Certificate program , M.Sc.program. You may also qualify for a “Fonds Leadership” scholarship .

Admission criteria:

  • Clear description of social issues to be addressed
  • Proof of student status
Institutional applicants (i.e. educational institutions applying on behalf of their students)

Each institution’s representative must enter the following information in the form for institutions by Februrary 28, 2020:

**Please note that each nominated participating teams will also have to fill the application form “Participating teams application form: edition 2020”.

  • Total number of participants nominated by the institution
  • Institution’s representative:
    • Full name
    • Position
    • Representation capacity (i.e., education module, program, department, institute, center, etc.)
    • Email
    • Phone
    • Postal address
  • List of teams nominated by the institution and summary of the teams’ profiles:
    • Project name
    • Coach’s full name (if the team has more than one coach, enter the name of the head coach only)
    • Coach’s email
    • UN Goals (write the number of the UN goals to which the project intends to contribute)
    • One-line description of the project
    • Institutional support (indicate the type of support the project receives from the institution (i.e., course credit, financial support, etc.). If the project does not receive any formal support from the institution, write “NONE”).

**Besides filling in the institutional application form, the institutions must require their nominated teams to complete the forms for participants.

APPLY TO COMPETE FOR INSTITUTIONS’ PRIZES

  • Step 1: Enter at least a team in the competition by filling in the form for institutional applicants by February 28, 2020.
  • Step 2: The person responsible for SBC coordination at your institution must submit to sbc@hec.ca by August 30, 2020 an action plan proposal to create social impacts in accordance with SBC’s mission. The dossier will be evaluated by the institution’s ability to create impacts (criteria in part A of the evaluation form) and potentials to create social impacts from the award money (criteria in part B of the evaluation form).

APPLY TO COMPETE FOR EDUCATOR AWARDS

  • Step 1: Have at least one student enter the competition as a participating team’s member. Note that the candidate must be a teacher directly involved in the training (in part or full) for at least one team in the edition in which he/she wishes to be considered for the educator award.
  • Step 2: Submit to sbc@hec.ca by 30 August a document explaining the pedagogical innovation and effectiveness in social entrepreneurship education in according to SBC’s mission.

Scholarship and financial assistance

SBC offers various merit-based scholarships and need-based financial assistance. To apply, participants must complete the section called “Request for financial and other special support” in the application form.
