APPLICATION (TO BE OPEN DURING DECEMBER AND JANUARY 2018)
Contents Description Deadline
Submission required Complete SBC online application that includes:

  • A form which lists team members (there is no required minimum or maximum number of members; however at least one member must be have university student status at the time of application)
  • A 1-page proposal that describes the applicant team’s business idea to solve one or several social issues
  • Proof of student status of the student members (their current transcript or university’s attestation letter)
  • Photo of team members (may be taken individually or in group)
  • CAD100 non-refundable application fee for each member regardless of student status.

  • Clear description of the social issue to be addressed
  • Business potential of the proposed solution
  • Valid student status.
 
Admission
  • Results will be sent to applicants on a rolling basis (within 10 working days after receipt of the application). As soon as admitted, participants can begin pursuing SBC online training and doing their field work.
  • All admitted participants will receive online and offline training at HEC Montreal. However, only student members are allowed to make presentations.

Round 2

  • Teams finalize their business concept presentation on http://www.socialbusinesscreation.hec.ca that includes a 100-word business description, a 3-minute video pitch, monetary value of the investment and resources acquired from the crowdfunding and crowdsourcing campaign, links to their social media, and detailed business model explanation (SBC template is required).
  • Teams email to sbc@hec.ca their proof of crowdfunding and crowdsourcing results
  • (optional) Teams email to sbc@hec.ca any information that they want to be considered in the evaluation (and get feedback on) but do not want to disclose to the public.

PART 2: TRAINING IN MONTREAL + 2 COMPETITION ROUNDS (SEPTEMBER 10-17, 2018)

Training in Montreal (September 10-15, 2018)

Coaches may come with their teams to Montreal if they so wish. All participants and coaches are responsible for their own travel and personal expenses. HEC Montreal will provide teams with co-working space with internet access during the training period.

    Workshop on story-telling and Mock-up presentations (students present as if they were in the pitch round) to receive immediate individual feedbacks on business model & presentation skills

    Conference on “Fostering social impacts”
